Unsurprisingly, a work in progress. Currently, we’re finishing up after replacing the engine and getting everything hooked up and working as it is supposed to. Then its back to the electric system to start adding important things like a better air conditioner and….I’m so excited…a refrigerator!
Minx was first owned by a lawyer in Savannah and changed hands only once before we moved aboard in 2010. She was in reasonably good repair for so old a boat, though many of her systems had started to fail and so were pulled out. We took a long weekend and sailed her from Savannah up to Beaufort before loading her on a truck and moving her home.
What was supposed to be one weekend’s worth of work before putting her in the lake turned into two weeks of patching gel coat blisters and figuring out how to tighten the rudder and propeller shaft. I was interviewing for jobs at this point, so imagine going into an interview with blue bottom paint in your hair and fiberglass stuck to your fingers. (Needless to say, it worked to my advantage.)
Two weeks later, at the end of October, we put her in the water and three months later we put the mast up and sailed her again. (The mast was re-wired and had all new LED lights installed.) We have since replaced the compression post, rewired portions of the electric system, completely replaced the water system, redone the head, recovered most of the cushions, put down a new floor, re-caulked the windows, rebuilt the engine, and sailed a ton.
